Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has announced the squad to face Italy in Shizuoka on Friday. He has reverted back to the squad that played New Zealand at the start of the tournament but, made three crucial changes. Beast Mtawarira and Bongani Mbonambi along with Lood de Jager have all been promoted to the starting lineup.
Beast and Bongi will take the starting reins from Steven Kitshoff and Malcolm Marx who will both be on the bench. Lood will slot in for Franco Mostert and form the second-row combo with Etzebeth. The backline will remain the same as the team that played the World Cup opener.
In anticipation of a physical match against Italy, Erasmus has opted for a 6-2 forward split on the bench.
Jesse Kriel has still not been declared match fit after getting a hamstring injury against the All Blacks.
